This past weekend, I was able to comment on the viral post of the Mormon missionary who had been in Brussels at the time of the terrorist attack. I noticed that there were many comments from people bashing the Mormon church and saying other negative things about this missionary. This irked me and so I responded the following:
"This post is intended for Christians of any church: I think it's sad how some people on this thread are using this young man's testimony of his faith to criticize the Mormon church. Regardless of what you believe Mormons believe, we should all act like Christians and be grateful this young man is still alive. We should put our differences aside and unite in one thing that makes us similar and that is faith. If faith is a motivating factor in our lives to do good, it shouldn't matter what others have faith in. As Christians we need to remember what it actually means to be Christian and seek to center our lives on Christ like attributes, and Not use this as an opportunity to criticize Mormons. Who knows? Maybe when we do this our love and understanding of Mormons can grow and we may find out things we never knew! Maybe we will even find that they are Christian and we've been wrong all along. I just pray that we won't be so quick to criticize and judge, especially when there are so many things in our own lives that we need to change to be better followers of Christ."
I didn't except very much feedback, however I received many likes and comments. I am now at 2,732 likes and 172 comments! It has been really cool to be a part of something that has gone so viral, and I do consider this viral for me since the most likes I have ever gotten is around 300 and they are usually only from my friends. The conversation was good too, most people that commented were really positive.
This definitely applied to this class about our goal to share goodness.
