February 11, 2016: Applications

This week for this class I was able to write a blog post about positive vs. negative words. I was able to share an experience I had in high school when one person stood up against a bully and won.
Here is an excerpt from my blog post:

When I was in high school, someone anonymously came out with the Facebook profile, "Gossip Girl." Gossip Girl would post negative comments about the kids at school. The effects of online bullying quickly became the topic of every conversation. Everyone I went to school with seemed to be directly or indirectly effected by it. It was getting out of control and something needed to be done. Who knew what other damage this negativity could do?

Then, someone took a stand. A new Facebook profile popped up called AJ Barnabas. AJ Barnabas counteracted everything that "Gossip Girl" said and spread positivity throughout the school. And from my perspective, it was a hit. Students overcame the effects of online bullying and began expressing their gratitude towards AJ Barnabas for sharing positive messages instead of negative ones. Soon after the appearance of the anonymous AJ Barnabas, Gossip Girl disappeared.

The power of ONE influenced hundreds.

At first, the negativity was like poison spreading throughout the school. Gossip Girl was changing people's perspectives of others and of themselves. People were stirred to believe things that weren't true. That is way too much power to put into one person's hands.

But, the power of positive words is something that should be in everyone's hands. Fortunately, one person did speak up and make a difference. The power of positive words was enough to stop the course of this bully right in their tracks.
